Tournaments Rules
This is the official rule book for
SMT. These rules are based on the combined knowledge
of many dedicated players, referees, dealers and field
operators.
The goal of SMT is to have safe, fun, and
fair paintball tournaments where cheating is non existent.
We cater to the player who plays for the sheer enjoyment of
the sport.
@ NOTE @
Any rules contained in this book may be
changed by SMT without notice to promote a safe, fun, and
fair tournament.
@ NOTE @
Any masculine pronouns in this book are used
for convenience only and are meant to refer to all players,

These are the members who are responsible
for setting the tournament rules and regulations that SMT
events will follow. They also determine the members who will
make up other committees for SMT.
This committee consists of the field owner,
and the ultimate referee. These people have the
responsibility to oversee tournaments sanctioned by SMT and
they will be represented at each SMT tournament. The
Committee will make standing decisions on problems or
disputes at a tournament until the Council can make a final
ruling.
SMT wishes all players the best of luck and
wishes to remind them that, as in all games, common sense,
honesty, and good sportsmanship will prevail as the most
important rules.
These rules are intended for information and
guidance only. SMT members, referees, field operators and
their staff, etc. cannot accept liability for any errors
contained therein or omissions made there from. They also
cannot accept any liability whatsoever from any loss or
damage however arising from the handling or use of these
rules.
By entering any tournament, the player
assumes all risks or damages howsoever caused.

teams place in a SMT tournament must contact the field
operator of the tournament site at least prior to
the tournament date. At that time the Captain must register
with the field operator his team’s name and a contact
number for the team. Registrations will be taken on a first come,
first serve basis. To hold the team’s position in the tournament
they must pay the entry fee in advance.

Ties are resolved by looking at the last
game that the two teams in question played against each
other. Which ever team won that game wins the current tie.
If that game was a tie in points then we will look at
penalties given. The team with the least penalty points in
that game will win the tie. If it is still even then we will
look at penalty points given for the days play and the team
with the least penalty points will win. If we are still even
then we will go to a one 5 minute playoff game.

Players first priority when fired upon
should be to check themselves or request a paint check to
determine if they have been marked. Both friendly and
unfriendly fire count towards elimination.
If in the opinion of a ref, the player
knew or should have known of his elimination, and does not
declare himself eliminated or tries to conceal a hit,
then, the ref will declare that player eliminated and pick
the closest player on the offending players team and
declare that second innocent player eliminated too. This is
called the one for one.
If one player is left on the field on each
team and they are both eliminated and it is deemed that
one of the players cheated, then the other team will get
points for a hang and the cheating team will get a 50pt
penalty.
For a hit to count the marking must be
direct and the paintball must break to create a quarter
sized splatter or to a refs discretion. For the purpose of
this rule, anything the player is wearing or carrying is
considered to be part of that player.
A ref may determine that a player has been
eliminated by examining paintball markings on that player
at anytime.
Any eliminated players will immediately
declare themselves as eliminated and walk off the field
with their hands in the air and marker held over their
head. At no time after a player has been eliminated will
the player speak. Talking after being eliminated will
result in a 50 pt. penalty
A player is considered eliminated if
during a game any part of his body or equipment goes out
of bounds.
If a player removes his mask for any
reason he will be considered eliminated and penalized 50
pts.
After a player is eliminated, he may not
pass nor take any equipment from a player still in the
game. This will result in a 50 pt. penalty.
No faking of any kind. Any player
attempting to deceive the opponents by faking an emergency
or faking to be out will be eliminated and will be
penalized [no dead mans walk] 50 pts
marked then all players involved will be
eliminated. The referee may decide who is eliminated in
the case that multiple players are marked and the players
can’t agree as to the order that they were marked.
Kneeling or laying on grounded paintballs
may count as an elimination unless verified by a referee.
Wiping excessive paint from a barrel swab
or cleaner on your clothing may result in an elimination.
Attempting to avoid being checked, hiding
from a referee or otherwise conceal a paint mark will
result in player elimination, a 50 pt, penalty and
a one for one.
Deliberately shooting at a referee,
spectator or eliminated player will result in elimination,
a 50 pt. penalty and a one for one.

Paint checks may be called at anytime
by any player or referee. When a paint check is
called, firing by all players may continue until the
referee makes a ruling, The player being checked must
continue to protect himself at all times.
-
A referee, in his discretion, need not
respond to the call for a paint check if he believes
that the call is made to determine the position of the
opposing player or to stall the action of the game. If
the paint check rule is abused the referee has the
right to eliminate the player or players abusing the
rule.

A flag carrier must carry the flag in
plain view. The flag will be carried either in the
hand or around the neck. The flag may not be used as a
shield. A player may not intentionally discard the
flag once it is in their possession.
-
A flag may be handed off between
active players.
-
If the flag carrier is hit he will
declare himself "out" and hold the flag

standard procedure.
-
If a referee gets the flag he will
attempt to re-hang the flag in its original position.

The preceding rules may seem lengthy and
somewhat severe however our intention is to create
tournament rules that prevented cheating. We feel that these
rules will so severely punish cheaters, that any benefit
from cheating will be eliminated.
Cheating affects us all and it is in
everyone’s best interest to eliminate it from the game.
Cheating is a major cause of new players leaving our sport.
If our sport does not continue to grow then it will be
doomed to wither and die.
We sincerely hope that you as players will
experience the unparalleled joy that can only come from the
greatest sport of them all.
